Asante Traditional Buildings — the shrine houses
1 / 5About this experience
Ten buildings around Kumasi are all that survive of the Asante Empire's architecture — the British burned the rest in 1874. Built of timber, bamboo and mud with the adinkra-patterned bas-relief panels that are the signature of Asante building, they were shrine houses, and several still are. Asenemaso, Besease, Ejisu, Kentikrono and Patakro are the ones usually visited. Inscribed by UNESCO in 1980. — Indicative price.
