Fort Batenstein, Butre
1 / 5About this experience
A Dutch trading fort of 1656 on the hill above Butre, reached by a short climb through the village. The Treaty of Butre was signed here on 27 August 1656 between the Dutch and the Ahanta — an agreement that held for over two hundred years, one of the longest-lasting treaties in African-European history. The fort is a ruin, the view over the Butre lagoon and the river mouth is not. — Indicative price.
